Pronounced as KEEN-wah, quinoa truly is a ‘superfood’. They are edible seeds originally from South America that are naturally gluten-free and often grown organically.
Quinoa is considered a complete protein and contains all nine essential amino acids. Quinoa also contains manganese, magnesium, phosphorus, folate, copper, iron, zinc, and potassium. There are also thousands of other trace nutrients in quinoa including the flavonoids quercetin and kaempferol.
As a bonus, quinoa is also easy to cook. Rinse your quinoa before cooking and use a 2 to 1 ratio water to quinoa. Bring to boil, then cover and simmer for 15 minutes.
